How to Maintain Smart Glass and Smart Film
Keep your smart glass and film performing at their best. With simple care, your glass windows, walls and doors will provide on-demand privacy for many years to come. Here are some tips and information on inspecting, installing, cleaning and maintaining our switchable glass products.
Cleaning Smart Glass and Film
Smart glass is cleaned like regular glass with alcohol or glass cleaner. Smart film should be cleaned with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol (70% alcohol or rubbing alcohol that you can buy at any drugstore). Important Precautions: Always turn the film off when cleaning and do not turn it back on until it is completely dry. Do not allow any metal or hard parts of cleaning equipment to come into contact with the film. The surface of the privacy film may be marked or scratched if cleaning instructions are not followed. Never clean electrical privacy film with a damp cloth and bucket or other technique that soaks the surface of the film with water.
Annual Checks
After installation, we recommend checking the glass or privacy film annually to ensure all wiring is in good working order, framing materials are free of damage, and the transformer is functioning properly. Areas adjacent to the glass such as walls, ceilings, and floors should have their structural integrity, humidity, and temperature checked. If there is excess heat or moisture, this should be treated as soon as possible to preserve the glass or switchable film. If the edges have been sealed with silicone gel to keep out moisture, check that the silicon is still in place and make any necessary touch-ups.
